The Big Opening.
Last Friday (7th February 2020) we have officially opened the door to the public. After several weeks of hard work, both mental and physical, the Hub moved into the premises of The Plot. Our enormous greenhouse, home of all the technology, has occupied plot number 34.
To celebrate our first day of operation we have organised an opening event to which we have invited local residents, representatives of other local community projects, University of Plymouth researchers and project stakeholders. With over 100 arrivals everyone had a chance to ask the team questions and play with technologies, amongst which were smart speakers, assistive Pepper humanoid robots, 3D printers, tablets pre-loaded with NHS services and more. One of the most popular tech (just after Pepper) was the Virtual Reality Spa room where people had a chance to experience aided relaxation on the beaches of Hawaii or by diving in the Indian ocean with sea turtles.
We are open every Tuesday and Wednesday from 12:00 until 17:00. until the end of April (and hopefully beyond that date). Everyone is welcome to come in and talk to us about the health and technologies we currently have at the hub. We are happy to teach you how to use those technologies to your advantage and explain how they could potentially help with different health conditions.
In the coming weeks (until the end of April) you can expect a series of scheduled activities around health technology including digital skills tutorials, creative workshops, guest talks from the University of Plymouth and Plymouth’s own tech companies. Moreover, each week we will host student volunteers from the University of Plymouth helping local residents to sign up for digital services such as GP appointment services, explaining how to use NHS website and NHS approved mobile apps.
Hopefully, see you soon at Plot 34.
